Reassessment, no assessment

After coming to terms with the fact that Roo would need to be reassessed in order for us to get meds, it all changed again! See our previous post for more on how this all came about.

The day before Roo's reassessment, the neurologist who had been on leave called us to ask why we were coming in to see her. After explaining what had been going on, she said she didn't need to see Roo or carry out any tests. There is a very small chance Roo is having seizures but the chance is so slim she would be happy for Roo to go on meds. She also isn't concerned with the cyst unless Roo's behaviour starts to change or we see other signs it is growing.

It was exactly as we thought, a miscommunication and too many people getting involved. The next step was for the neurologist to confirm with our vets what she had said to us and hopefully get medication.

A few days went by without hearing anything so we phoned our vets to see what was going on. Apparently we should have already been spoken to but never mind, a vet called us back that day and prescribed Roo anti anxiety medication.

Roo will be starting on 20mg once a day of fluoxetine (aka Prozac). It can take up to 6 weeks for the medication to take full affect and we can expect some things to get worse before they get better.

It feels like we have been waiting for this day for months! Such a long battle just to get to what is effectively the start line.
