Stop Comparing Your Dog.

We are all guilty of this. Us especially. You are out on a walk and see a dog walking so nicely. No pulling, lots of engagement and you turn to look at your pup and just think why. Why can't you do that. Or you are scrolling instagram, photo after photo of dogs playing off-lead, posing nicely for photos, sharing all those cute moments whilst you look over at you dog chewing the leaves off your fiddle fig.

This comparison will get you nowhere with your pup. Other than further from having a great relationship. Roo is fairly terrible on a lead, her recall is not good and she is reactive with people, dogs, cars and bikes. Seeing all these "perfect" dogs can be so disheartening but remember every dog has their struggle and do not compare your 6 month old pup to a 5 year old dog. It isn't fair.

Instagram is a great resource and community space but most people are only here to show the good stuff and won't mention the big poo their puppy took on their favourite rug earlier in the day instead posting a photo of them sleeping soundly. When we first got Roo this is exactly what we did but as things started to get harder, we started to become more honest. Sharing our struggles on our stories, asking for help and tips. Guess what, so many people reached out with similar struggles or thanking us for sharing the "bad" bits. Having a puppy is hard, it is mentally draining at times. Compleltely worth it but let's not downplay the hardship.

You and your pup are on your own journey dealing with your own issues. Focus on how far you have come from where you started. Keep training and working on your struggles, reach out for help and advice but remember those perfect dogs you keep seeing probably have issues you are not aware of or have had the same struggles you are currently having and have overcome them.
